Bunking siblings in the same room is a necessity in our home. Luckily, my 7-year-old son Gray and 4-year-old daughter Sloane are the best of buddies. They love having each other to whisper to at night when the lights go out, and they have come to rely on each other as trusted roommates.
Even though Gray is all dude, with a sports and video game obsession and Sloane sings “Let it Go” daily while wearing a tiara and tutu, a shared space works great for them. The problem is that the room lacks style and design, plus creating a space that lets both of their personalities shine has been a huge challenge. As a result, I’ve plopped a bunch of odds and ends into the room and called it a day. Finally, I’m ready for a total room makeover! Feeling overwhelmed, I knew I needed a little help. Enter Pottery Barn Kids!
I’ve always loved how PBK layers boy and girl collections together, making it easy to mix the two seamlessly. Plus they offer free Interior Design Services to provide inspiration and help develop a plan. I knew it would be exactly the motivation I needed to get this project off the ground. I set up an in-store appointment with my local Design Specialist Christine, and I immediately felt reassured that this room makeover would be a success.
I wanted to be sure that the kids loved their new room too, so Christine suggested I bring the kids along so they could get involved in the design process. The experts at Pottery Barn Kids know that bringing the clients into the design process, no matter what their age, is always a great idea. I was all for it; I wanted to be sure they loved their new room too!
So off we went to my trusted friends over at Pottery Barn Kids.
Success! Gray loved the Organic Navy Star Bedding, and Sloane fell for the Reversible Pink Heart Duvet. With the navy and hot pink color scheme set as the jumping off point, Christine and I got to work. We created a room layout and a joint Pinterest board so we could share ideas and pieces we thought would bring the design to life. I wanted to keep a few existing pieces, like the dresser, and Christine worked with my ideas and my budget.
After I soaked up all the inspiration from our in-store visit and Pinterest collaboration, I did what we are known for at Project Junior. I created a design board. What do you think?
