At Pottery Barn Kids, it’s our passion to create spaces for kids to dream, learn and play – and we’re dedicated to making that happen for children everywhere. To support that vision, we partner year-round with Bright Horizons Foundation for Children, which creates “bright spaces” in homeless shelters and other environments where families are in crisis. In June, we partnered with Bright Horizons® to create our first “bright space” at Compass Clara House, a program run by San Francisco-based Compass Family Services. Pottery Barn Kids associates transformed a day care center at Compass Clara House to create a comfortable, welcoming place for children to learn and play.
This holiday season, we helped Compass Family Services throw their annual holiday party, which took place in San Francisco on December 12. The event featured a traditional holiday meal catered by Chef Alex Tamburro. Santa was on hand to give a pair of Pottery Barn Kids pajamas and a book to each child, and the room was decorated with ornaments, stockings, garlands and other decorations.
We also donated a play area complete with a play kitchen, teepee, Anywhere Chairs, and (of course) plenty of toys! A local circus troupe and puppeteer performed a lively show.
There was also a special appearance from Mayor Ed Lee, who was on hand to celebrate Compass Family Services centennial year. He spoke about San Francisco having a world class heart and a commitment to volunteerism. He commented, “Thank you everyone for coming out and doing so much good, whether you are serving meals or helping the kids with some fun or clowning around.”
For many of the children and families who attended, this was the only holiday party they’ll have the opportunity to enjoy – and we’re so grateful that we were able to be a part of it.
